This is a CAN HS/FD Sub-Module and it sets the standard for all modules – 59 x 19.5 mm size per module, but the system will allow for modules to occupy different sizes, but we need to stick to this size for 8 modules in a box.
As two positions are occupied by Ethernet and Power we can allow special design that use that extra space being longer or wider and still have 6 ports. We will also have shorter boards like USB connectors or Serial ports that don’t need a separate MCU etc. In some cases it might also be more optional to use one MCU and several ports.
Located at left is (1) SWD, (2) SPI Flash, (3) 3.3V PSU, (4) Module connector and (5) small MCU. At right is IO for this module – in this case a single CAN port fully isolated.
